Marian Mothers & Dove Catholic Fellowship
Newly married and settled in Glenfield, Sean and I began attending mass prior to the building of the church while building our own home. We were in the same boat with other young families taken under the wing of the Daughters of Charity and Sister Margaret who convened a pre-school group (similar to Mainly Music.)This was an opportunity to meet likeminded people as we shared a cuppa. This group led easily into a Marian Mothers’ group which began in Father Philip Sullivan’s tenure. We began to meet in each other’s homes on a weekly basis. We would start with a decade of the rosary and listen to a tape sent from the Marist Mission in Wellington which we would then discuss. Lunch and fellowship followed. We also ran at least two Life in the Spirit Seminars, hungry to know God better and to share His love. Our group was attended by Glenfield and Northcote parishioners, becoming so big that we eventually became two groups. One of our members, Carol Lattimer, now resident in England, instituted “ Pop with a Mop” We knew those in our number who had new babies ,sickness, or other needs that we could assist with practically. Life time friendships were forged as the group continued approximately ten years, some of our number also beginning to attend the newly formed Dove Catholic Fellowship for Women.
